Wallaby feeding in suburban yard

The Karana Downs- Mt.Crosby area is well known for its high quality of life which we who live there and visitors alike appreciate and cherish. An important part of the attractiveness of the area is the setting which is one of extensive bushland which attracts a wide range of wildlife including :

  • over 50 bird species, the most commonly sighted being kookaburras, magpies, cockatoos, brush turkeys, ducks and parrots.
  • over 30 other wildlife, the most commonly sighted being wallabies and possums.
We all enjoy seeing, hearing, feeding and photographing wildlife around the home.

The presence of wallabies can greatly enhance the quality of life in the area. They will coexist with people provided they are not chased or frightened. Already there are signs that this attractiveness is diminishing.

Wallabies are now seen less frequently in the area - dogs roaming at night and fencing that obstructs movement, causing injury and death, are contributing to this situation.

The following information has been designed to increase our awareness of and suggest practical steps to ensure continuation of the backyard wildlife in the Karana Downs - Mt.Crosby area.
